The Top 3 Most Valuable Silver Dollars

Throughout the years at American Coins & Gold, we’ve seen some of the most rare silver dollars bought and sold. Whether someone brought in an old collection into our shop or we spotted one at a coin auction, we always take note when extremely valuable currency  is around. This is because the more knowledge and experience you have the more likely you can take advantage when certain opportunities present themselves.

Based on those results, we have compiled the top 3 most valuable silver dollars (AKA Morgan Dollars or Peace Dollars). The list only includes true rare and valuable coins in their natural state. As opposed to rare error marks and misprints, these coins themselves are in high demand.

#1)  1901 Morgan Silver Dollar – Mint Condition worth $420k

It might be crazy to hear a coin can be worth close to a half million dollars, and quite frankly it is. But this Morgan Silver Dollar from 1901 with no mint mark can bring in upwards of $420,000 if in absolute certified mint state condition. On the other hand, if you happen to have one of these in your collection but the coin is in average condition, it can still fetch you up to $50! Not bad for a coin which has a face value of $1. These Silver Dollars were first released in Philadelphia and also do have some Double Die Reverse error versions which are worth close to $4,000.

#2) 1893 S Morgan Silver Dollar – Mint Condition Worth  $300k

 

The second most valuable coin on our list is the 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar with mint mark “S”. This silver coin can be worth up to $300,000 in certified mint condition which is an amazing payout if you are the lucky person who finds this coin. Only 100,000 of these silver dollars were issued and it is rumored most have been melted down for their silver value over the last 30 years. Another insane factor to consider is that even in average condition, this single silver dollar is valued at $6,000 – $6,500!

#3) 1899 CC Morgan Silver Dollar – Mint Condition Worth  $275k

 

The last but not least silver coin on our list is the 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar with mint mark “CC”. According to the RedBook an 1890 Silver Dollar sold at Heritage Auction for over half a million dollars back in 09. The 1899 version in 2018 is worth $275000, – $280,000 in certified mint condition and up to $1,500 in average condition.  As with the coins above, this coin features numismatic qualities which give it a higher demand. Even if silver prices went down this coin would retain it’s value well.
